Are your children true winter kids and love to jump straight from bed into the first pile of snow every morning? Then you’re probably in the same boat as me and place a lot of importance on a good kids’ snow jacket – one that doesn’t let any water in even during the wildest snowball fights and keeps kids warm throughout a long day on the slopes, until the sun sets.
As always, we at namuk have the needs of the wildest adventurers (but also the not-so-wild ones) in mind and have developed a variety of ski jackets. To give an overview, I have a few tips for you to consider when buying a ski jacket for kids and deciding which jacket is best for your snow angels and downhill speed demons!
Buying a ski jacket for kids: the 8 most important features
Ski jackets for kids come in all shapes, colors, and sizes. What’s more, the level of quality can vary a lot with regard to the material, which impacts performance and durability. Which jacket is right for your kids? First off, of course, it’s very important that your child likes the jacket. It needs to look great – preferably in one of their favorite colors – and it should be very comfortable. After all, the kids not only have to get down the slopes in the jacket, but also duck from snowballs at lightning speed or quickly test out the playground before going home at night.
Here comes my list of the 8 most important features, which, for me, make a really great ski jacket:
- Warm insulation: Keeping kids nice and warm is a must for kids’ ski jackets, so namuk uses, for example, PrimaLoft® Bio™ insulation – which not only keeps kids cozy, but is also 100% biodegradable.
- Waterproofness: To make sure snow and rain don’t stand a chance and your kids stay dry as a bone under their jackets, high waterproofness is essential. That’s why namuk ensures a water column of at least 15,000 mm. It’s even higher for some of our jackets.
- Breathability: You could take the most waterproof jacket in the world – but if your kids are sweating inside it, they’ll be wet at the end of the day just the same. That’s why you should look for ski jackets made with breathable material.
- Wind protection: On a rapid descent, wind can rush into our ears (and jackets) with a vengeance. A good ski jacket for kids should be windproof and not let any cold air in.
- Fit: For my kids, there’s nothing worse than feeling constrained by their clothes. Freedom of movement is the magic phrase!
- Adjustable waist and snow guard: These are important for keeping snow and wind out of the jacket. That’s why namuk developed the Overall Connection System, which lets ski jackets and ski pants connect very easily.
- Visibility and safety: Reflective seams and prints, and bright, eye-catching colors let kids shine on gray and dark winter days.
- Quality: It’s so frustrating when new clothes rip with the first little crash or wild climbing adventure. That’s why you should look for good quality and durable, robust materials!
A guide to our namuk kids’ ski jackets
One ski jacket is the same as the next? Not quite! Which jacket is right for your child depends on what your family likes to do. Do you love spending your days on the slopes with the wind rushing past? Or are you true outdoor enthusiasts who plan long ski tours? Either way, no matter how you like to spend winter: Here comes the perfect ski outfit for your kids!
This just in: the ski collection for kids
Our Neve snow jacket has kids zooming down the slopes faster than ever! With its form-fitting cut for maximum aerodynamics and freedom of movement, your kids will have the slowpokes on the slopes looking extra pokey.
Thanks to Primaloft Silver Insulation, this jacket keeps kids toasty during ski races (and also, by the way, when building snowmen or snowboarding). It pairs perfectly with our narrowly cut Lumi snow pants. Also take note: The pants and jacket can be connected easy peasy thanks to the Overall Connection System, guaranteeing that snow stays out.

For outdoors lovers: The 3 Layer products
One jacket for all your needs! Sound too good to be true? But it is true – thanks to the Turas 3 layer all season jacket. Truly, your kids can always wear this jacket thanks to endless possibilities to combine it with other pieces. Okay, maybe there aren’t exactly endless possibilities, but in spring and autumn, you can combine it with a Merino shirt or fleece (short sleeves or long). And in winter on the slopes? Turas has got you covered again when combined with a warm Primaloft jacket.
This jacket really is something very special – thanks, too, to its extremely high water column and the superlight material that’s usually used only in high-end products for adults. With Turas, even days spent totally outdoors in the snow and long ski trips are now no problem! Combined with the Dait 3 layer all season bib pants, well… winter can go ahead and last a few days longer this year.
Especially suited for: outdoors fans, ski tours
The classic: The All Mountain Collection
You’re looking for a jacket that will have you covered all winter long? That works just as well for walking to school or waiting for the bus as on a winter hike or the slopes? Then our Mission jacket is the right ski jacket for you. With Primaloft Black Bio Insulation and a water column of 15,000 mm, it’s always a favorite in the coat closet, always ready to grab and go.

Should you buy a ski jacket or ski overall? Spoiled for choice
Whether you buy a ski jacket or overall depends on your needs and what your children like. Sometimes an overall can be superpractical, because there’s no way snow can get in and it keeps the whole body nice and warm.
namuk’s overalls are cut somewhat wider, so they’re comfortable to the max. They provide your child a lot of freedom of movement in the snow, yet the 15,000 mm water column and trusty Primaloft insulation keep kids wonderfully warm and dry. Especially for babies and toddlers, many parents prefer a ski overall to a jacket. Is your child a bit bigger and still loves our overalls? Then perhaps you’ve already discovered our drop-seat zipper, which makes using the bathroom a breeze.
My big kids prefer to wear a ski jacket in winter. They can pull it on easily when they want to dash off quickly to see their friend around the corner. To make sure no snow can get in when skiing or snowboarding, we use the handy Overall Connection System.
